About Dr. Ozkan

Dr. Ozgur Ozkan brings over 20 years of dedicated experience as a glaucoma specialist and medical retina expert to the Maryland Eyecare Center. With a passion for providing comprehensive and compassionate care, Dr. Ozkan is committed to enhancing the vision and quality of life of his patients.

Growing up in a small town in Nebraska, Dr. Ozkan’s academic journey began as the valedictorian of his high school class. He continued his education at Georgetown University, graduating magna cum laude with a degree in Chemistry, concentrating in Biochemistry. During his undergraduate years, he authored a children’s book titled *“Why is the Sky Blue,”* which demonstrates simple science experiments that can be conducted at home. This book remains a popular resource for teachers, parents, and children worldwide.

Dr. Ozkan earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of South Carolina. During his residency, he performed over 500 retinal injections and received first place for his research on innovative diagnostic technology for glaucoma and retinal conditions.

He was then selected for a prestigious glaucoma fellowship with Dr. Mark Latina, the inventor of Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT), at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, affiliated with Harvard Medical School. Here, Dr. Ozkan honed his skills in diagnosing complex cases and performing intricate glaucoma surgeries. Recently, he was invited to participate in a Masterclass for Interventional Glaucoma, showcasing his continued commitment to staying at the forefront of his field.

In addition to his expertise in glaucoma, Dr. Ozkan has advanced training in medical retina and anesthesiology, ensuring his patients' comfort and safety during procedures. He leverages cutting-edge technology, including deep learning and AI, to enhance the precision of his diagnoses and treatments.

Although Dr. Ozkan is a highly skilled surgeon, he prioritizes non-surgical, in-office treatments for managing glaucoma. When surgery is necessary, he utilizes the latest advancements in Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) to ensure the best possible outcomes for his patients. His comprehensive expertise also extends to the diagnosis and treatment of diabetic eye disease, retinal vein occlusions, dry and wet macular degeneration, and other retinal conditions.

Beyond his technical skills, Dr. Ozkan’s true passion lies in providing compassionate, patient-centered care. He believes in supporting his patients through every step of their eye health journey, making him a valued member of the Maryland Eyecare Center team.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Ozkan enjoys spending quality time with his five-year-old son, reading, and traveling with his wife. Despite being a self-proclaimed terrible cook, he loves trying new recipes and spending time in the kitchen.
